Suggested plants for a tropical garden?

I'm looking at putting in a nice tropical style garden. I'm in queensland Australia and was wondering what type of plants would look nice and survive? Also, any suggestions for a design? Thanks!

Suggested plants for a tropical garden?
Croton is usually pretty hardy. I'd definately use palms as well. Talk with someone at your local nursery. If you're in a warm enough climate you should find plenty of selection locally.

This is not a plant suggestion really, but I think it'd be cool to add a water feature such as a fountain that resembles ruins...something Machu Picchu-ish ;)
Reply:Canna.
Reply:elephant ears and ti plants are nice
Reply:Orelander(spelling not right) Bottle brush plant, palms, orchids, jasmine, take note if you live in a cold climate, they all must be brought inside when cooler, oh yea, dwarf banana trees
Reply:Can you grow canna there? If so, the leaves look very tropical. There are now two types.....tall and dwarf.
