I have a property which the garden needs a total revamp. Anyone have any suggestions on where to look to find simple and easy to maintain garden designs (websites or magazines suggestions) would be much appreciated.
How to re-design my overgrown garden?
You can find all kinds of plans at the library.
I would pick out the plants you want to keep and then put up a sign for the ones you want to get rid of
"Free plants you dig"
This will help labor wise.
Reply:none of know what your property looks like, so start with looking at photos of what you want. incorporate the original garden into your plan since it's cheaper. talk to landscapers and other professionals in your area. a home improvement store or university cooperative extension program are good resources, too.
Reply:Hello,
I have some recommendation for you;
- If you would like to create Japanese Garden, this e-book is really handy to show you a step-by-step to design -- http://cbtopsites.com/v/sriealbert/belle...
- If this is the first time garden, this e-book is really good to create a mini, simple and beautiful garden, download at : http://cbtopsites.com/v/sriealbert/first...
Well, good luck!
Reply:I just like to go looking around the local neighborhood, that way you can tell what grows good in your climate zone. And I just take pic's or notes of what I see......and do one area at a time..........if I like rocks.........well I locate rocks.......if I like trees.......same.........color....short tall..........kind of like women...what shape and size might I like for this "Eve". have fun..........one day at a time.
Reply:If you're in UK, try your local agricultural college, someone there is bound to be studying horticulture and may help you redesign your garden for free as a project linked to their course.

What is your biggest problem in Garden Design?
I have some of friend and relatives asking for design their home garden. Honestly said since I do learn the subject and practices it, kind of common sense when you use to hang with the thing again and again. May I know what is the problem your're facing when you're try to do you own landscape/garden design :)
What is your biggest problem in Garden Design?
Scale is the biggest problem. Most people plant things like they will never get bigger. Consequently they plant them too close to the house or too close to other plants or they plant too many plants for a given area. If a person can imagine what the plants will look like in 10 years, that's the best way to design, unless you have been trained.
Reply:The main problem is envisaging the end result. Whilst this can be fuild, to a point, failing to see how things will turn up, means that the garden or landscape will never achieve it's true potential.
Reply:I challenge anyone to grow or propagate plants better than I do, but I have no ability to sit down at one time and landscape anything. So.....I just moved in about 4 months ago and it will take my 5 years to get it done which is fun, but I wish I had an eye for design. The weird part is: everyone asks me to decorate their homes...I am good at that...colors, furniture, etc....Mentally challenged I am when it comes to designing a space (except for container pots and I'm exceptionally good at that)????????????????

Where can I find a free garden design website??
I am a cheapstake...yes I know. But why pay when there is a chance to get something for free.
I want to do a 3D design (2D if I am asking for the impossible) of the garden of my dreams but the software is so damn expensive. Anyone know any good sites??
I have had a few landscapers out to look at the garden but can't seem to get accross to them just what I want it like, and my artistic flare is non-existant and the drawings I try to do look really naff.
Thanks
Janey

There is another option.Look in your local big newsagents,WH Smith etc,and check out the free software on the front,That way you only get to pay 3 or 4 quid for a prog that would have been £60 or 70 + new.And how much does garden design age?
Or go look in PC World in the cheap software part.
Reply:I once used a 3d one which I came across on the BBC Gardeners world website. It was very good - I'm not sure if they still do it but try the BBC general website and I'm sure you'll be able to get to the gardening bit quite easily!
Reply:Here are 2 sites. First one how to design a garden and second one for free software.

If I wanted to go into landscaping for a career, would majoring in Garden Design help me?
I've always enjoyed working outside with the earth and plants. I thought about becoming a Landscaper for awhile but now I'm into computers. Just tonight I saw at this College's website that I am thinking about going to, they have a major for Garden Design. Does that help with becoming a landscaper for a business like that?
If I wanted to go into landscaping for a career, would majoring in Garden Design help me?
Why not major in Horticulture with a minor in landscape design or architecture. That way you get the best of both worlds. You will learn about growing, living, plants and turf as well as learning how to apply this knowledge into designing it yourself before the installation. Of course you will need to have courses in botany as well as soil management or sciences and a course in entomology wouldn't hurt either. If you can graduate with at least a Bachelors you will have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in the landscape field. In the meantime, during your summertime break, you can find seasonal work with a local landscape company. This will be a way for you to get your hands dirty and learn the trade first hand. A couple of seasons working with a good contractor, along with a degree, will get you well on your way to owning your own landscape company. Good luck!

Reply:Sorry, but Iam not set up for Emailing, however, here is a link to all US colleges offering Horticulture degrees. Some of the courses in Hort. have landscape design anyway. You may wish to just get the Hort degree. Good Luck!

Reply:It definitey does help. Learn all you can about the plants and the area where you want to work. Travel some and look at what people are growing and get a good base for advising people so that every landscape doesnt look the same. I think when you have a degree and get some business classes that you will quialify for a higher pay than the rest of us plant nuts.
Reply:Billy Ray's got you covered. The most in-demand landscapers, have more than a design background, so you also need to know about the plants themselves. Many Horticulture programs will focus on the growing conditions of plants as much as or more than the design aspect of landscaping.
You can check out your state's landscape/nursery association for information on career opportunities and educational opportunities, too.
Good luck!
Reply:garden design is relevant, sure, but landscape ecology or landscape architecture would be more what you're looking for.
Reply:if you have that qualification its your choice.any reputable landscape firm will be lining up for your services.you can be in the office or out in the field giving advice.you could become a consultant and go out on your own giving people advice on what to put where.you can design a garden for someone or a company and be the supervisor in the construction.get your appropriate licenses and you could get your hands dirty as well.
Reply:Do you think you'd enjoy design? If you are good at it, it can be very lucrative. It's not easy, there is ALOT of math, geometry and the like.

I am a landscaper and designer. Garden designs come from your own personality and sharing your favorite colors and textures outside in a garden. The method of planning - prepping and planting is a great way to do any style garden. I will link you to the examples of landscape designs of my website. These are hand drawn designs. I am not an artist by any means, but my clients like simple designs and design keys they can follow. Look through and see if any one of these may help. I will also link you to the site map, as this page has everything that is on the website. There are many articles, tips and techniques that may be helpful to you. I will also link you to the garden project section. Take a look at a number of different garden possibilities. Good luck to you. If you need any further help, please feel free to contact me. I will also link you to the plan - prep and plant page. Have a great day!

What is a good name for a garden design company?
I am starting a company to help people design and refresh their gardens and landscapes. My services will include planning out their garden, helping them select plants at the nursery, and then helping them keep their yard green and healthy. I'm thinking of a name with
"-- Scenes" or "-- Scapes" in it, but I'm open to any ideas. I am near the coast and specialize in plants that do well there. I love the name Gardenscapes but it is already taken. Thanks much!

Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer. I have had a business for over eight years. When you create the name of your business, think of your own personality and how it can reflect on your clients. You live near the coast and are in a sub - tropical or tropical setting. Coastal Gardening may be a thought as well of Garden Scences By The Sea, Tropical Paradise Through Gardening, Gardening With Tropical Plants, Creating Coastal Gardens, or Coastal Gardenscapes.
These are just a few that come to mind. Take some words that reflect your area and spend some time playing with the different words. Put some good thought about what your clients would like. This is what I did with my off line business as well as my on line business. I will link you to the tropics section of my website. Browse through as you may find something that may help you. Good luck to you and if I can be of any other help, let me know! Have a great day!

Garden design?
Hi, doe's anybody know of a free program i can use to get layout and design ideas for my garden? iv'e tried the bbc program but it's very limited, would be very grateful for any help
Garden design?
Try a landscape architect instead of a software program
(Free things are worth what you pay for them.)
Reply:Go to HGTV.com
It is the American website / television network that does nothing but home decor and gardening type things.
Reply:get a book on Japanese gardens, at your local library, they are very peaceful and beautiful.
